We have just updated the Fleetlist, and will try to keep it updated as new appliances arrive and older ones get moved around, but as you can appreciate it is very much "work in progress".
There are four new "Ten" registration appliances to be sent to stations soon, and more arriving later in the year.

Open Day at Hinckley Fire and Rescue Station

Firefighters from Hinckley Fire and Rescue Station invite all to it’s free open day at Leicester Road, Hinckley on Saturday 13 June 2009 10am – 2pm.

Not only is it a fantastic, fun and interactive day out for all the family with lots to see and do, but a great opportunity to learn about fire safety and prevention this summer.

Attractions and displays such as a bouncy castle, fairground rides, face painting, a tombola and a BBQ will be available, along with this, there will be a local Steel Band, a Hot Oil Demonstration, an adult and children’s smoke house experience, LFRS Technical Rescue team will be in attendance and there will be a display of a rescue from a car.

Paul Purser, Watch Manager White Watch at Hinckley Fire and Rescue Station said:

“We are really looking forward to this open day and to the opportunity to welcome members of the local community through the doors here at Hinckley Fire and Rescue Station.

There will be plenty of activities and demonstrations for everyone to see and do and the day will give local people the chance to meet and talk to their local firefighters.

This promises to be a positive and fun event, with lots to see and do, and we’re hoping to raise some money for the Fire Fighters Charity and local children’s charities.”

Fire station facelift bid gets boost

Plans to revamp Leicester's Central Fire Station have been given a boost after the Government announced £1.6 million in extra funding.

Fire minister Sadiq Khan revealed that Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service would receive the money over the next two financial years.

The funding is part of a £78 million investment package that will benefit all fire and rescue authorities in England.

This is the first time the country's FRAs have been given new money for capital investment.

Plans to refurbish the interior of the 1920s grade II-listed building in Lancaster Road, in the city centre, at a cost of £5.5 million were revealed in June, and director of finance Trevor Peel said the announcement had come as good news

He said: "We are already committed to refurbishing Central Fire Station which will cost in the region of £5.5 million.

"The funding is helpful as it will reduce the amount we have to borrow."

Work on the revamp is currently out to tender.

It is hoped that work will be finally completed by the end of April 2010.

Warning over Regional Fire Control

Warning over merged fire control
The Fire Brigades Union has renewed calls for the authorities to think again over scrapping the county-based control rooms in the East Midlands.

The union said the cost of moving to a single control centre at Castle Donington would divert funds from front line training and equipment.

It also said problems with other government IT schemes could cost lives if repeated on this project.

But managers have said a single centre would make better use of resources.

The move is part of a national plan to close 46 emergency fire control rooms and replace them with 8 regional centres.

But Leicester Fire Brigades Union spokesman Tom Neal, said they while they were not against changes which improved the service, losing control rooms was dangerous.

"I know that if we leave brigade control rooms as they are now, lives will not be put at risk.

"But as we go into this we may find ourselves in the situation that London ambulance were in a few years ago when they amalgamated into a central control room and they could not turn out ambulances."

He added: "If it works - all well and good - but we are not convinced it will and we don't think we should be playing almost Russian roulette with the turnout system of an emergency service."

The new multi-million pound centre is due to start training next year, going operationally live in May 2010.

It will replace five separate call centres in Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire.

FJ 56 FFW Scania P270 TVAC PRL has moved from Hinckley to Ashby De La Zouch. The Scania PRL from Ashby has now moved back to Hinckley where it was stationed before. This is Scania PRL 94D 260 TVAC FD 53 UXF.

The Voicebank is usually updated every 2 hours or in the event of a large scale incident its updated more frequently where possible.

Firestation review

Melton's fire station could go full time after a review of the service across the county but chiefs are pleased with recent performances.
Several major blazes and a serious car crash have been dealt with excellently in recent months but calls have been made to make it a permanent rather than retained station.

Allison Cowley, from Old Dalby, said: "While wanting to add my appreciation of the local fire fighters to all those that are currently being voiced, I am concerned Melton is reliant on retained fire fighters rather than a permanent staff.

"Surely the time has come to acknowledge the fantastic work of the retained fire fighters by campaigning for a permanent, full time cover. After all, what has Oakham got that we haven't?"

But fire chiefs said the current level of support was more than adequate.

Peter Roffey, Chairman of the Combined Fire Authority, said: "I feel the recent spate of serious fires and road traffic collisions to which Melton appliances have been committed as first response have shown they have performed well.

"Whether or not the fire fighters were retained or full time would have been unlikely to make a difference to the outcome of these incidents.

"I think we should be very proud of the commitment the Melton retained fire fighters give to our community and congratulate them on a job demonstrably well done."

The northern area sector of Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service is currently under review to establish if changes need to be made to where the stations are, distribution of appliances and how they are crewed.

The Chief Fire and Rescue Officer Dave Webb will consider the information and make recommendations at the end of the year.

Hello all just an update as to recent sightings Spotted out in Loughborough recently was FJ08 WWP. This is an Iveco daily Command Support Vehicle for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and was marked up for Shepshed. The second CSV was spotted at an Iveco dealer in Leicester a few weeks ago and was registered FJ08 WWR.
